Getting in Touch

Got questions? Want to report a bug or contribute? Here's how to reach us. Before emailing, check the FAQ and list archives—your question might already be answered.

How to Contact Us

Mailing Lists

This is where most discussion happens. Everything's public and archived, so future users can benefit from the answers too.

See Mailing Lists for how to subscribe.

Direct Email

For stuff that doesn't belong on a public list (security issues, private matters), email us directly:

Help Us Help You

The more detail you provide, the faster we can help. Include:

For Technical Questions

  • What you're trying to do
  • What's going wrong
  • Your setup (OS, target platform, versions)
  • How to reproduce the problem
  • Error messages or relevant logs

For Bug Reports

  • Summary of the bug
  • Reproducible steps
  • Expected vs. actual behavior
  • Environment where it happens
  • Workarounds if you've found any

For Feature Requests

  • Description and use case
  • How it fits with existing features
  • Whether you'd like to implement it yourself

Response Times

We're all volunteers, so replies take a while. Typically:

  • List posts: a few days
  • Complex stuff: longer (we need time to investigate)
  • Security issues: these get priority

If it's been a week and crickets, a polite ping is fine.

Contributing

Interested in contributing code, docs, or testing? Check the Development section.

Be Cool

Standard rules apply:

  • Be respectful and constructive
  • Focus on technical merit, not personal stuff
  • Help newcomers learn
  • Accept feedback gracefully

Contact FAQ

Which mailing list should I use?

Use proteanos-dev for technical questions, development discussions, and patch submissions. The announce list is primarily for receiving project news rather than posting.

Do I need to subscribe to the mailing list to post?

Yes, posting to the lists requires subscription to reduce spam. Subscription is free and archives are publicly readable.

How do I report a security vulnerability?

Email security@proteanos.com directly rather than posting to public lists. See the security policy for details on responsible disclosure.

Can I contact maintainers privately?

For matters that don't fit public discussion, use the contact@proteanos.com address. However, public mailing lists are preferred for most technical topics.

I sent a message but haven't received a response. What should I do?

Wait a few days, then send a polite follow-up. Maintainers are volunteers with limited time. For mailing lists, ensure your message was delivered by checking the archives.
